Jeff is referred to in the CornerCap halls as “chief client problem solver.”  Jeff structures creative solutions for clients, especially ones who are onboarding with complex financial pictures that require some initial untangling.  He works hand-in-hand with the broad wealth advisor team to set up custom client portfolios and ensure smooth management and execution of each client portfolio.  Jeff is particularly well equipped to solve operational trading challenges given his early career background working in derivatives and fixed income trade support operations.

Why did you choose to join CornerCap?

I was inspired by the incredible client service provided by all the partners on our team. I knew that being a part of such a client-focused culture would be the ideal place to launch my career as a wealth advisor.

How do you encourage clients to frame their financial picture?

Start with the “musts.” Know what those are first, then protect them above all else. Anyone overly focused on the short-term and temporary “wants” and “likes” can end up unable to fulfill their most fundamental needs.

What was your first job, and how did it influence your ultimate career path?

As an undergrad at Auburn, I provided Tech Support to other students. CornerCap is a very tech-savvy firm.  Firms much larger than ours usually outsource much of what we manage to do in-house here, so having strong computer skills has been a huge benefit in optimizing my client service through direct involvement with our investment research.

If someone gave you a million dollars to start your own charity, what cause would you focus on?

Building permanent residences for the homeless.

What’s left to accomplish on your bucket list?

I would like to someday learn how to fly a helicopter. If that step goes well, my ultimate dream is to buy one of my own…but that’s likely many decades down the road.

Why is it important that you understand your clients’ financial picture?

Families can have similarities, but no two are identical. There is no one-size-fits-all plan. Every plan must be tailored to the unique needs and situations of the individual clients we serve.
