Cannon became our CEO in 2020 after serving as CIO for thirteen years. Known as an infectious optimist and collaborator, Cannon sets the vision and mission for our firm and optimizes how our dynamic teams help our clients fulfill their lives and legacies. He believes that relationships matter and champions making connections across our teams, networks and communities to solve our clients’ and our communities’ most pressing challenges. He works closely with first-generation wealth generators, high earners, and small business owners as they fulfill their wealth plans, tapping his own experience as a business owner for the past 15 years.
As CIO, a position that leverages his Wall Street roots, Cannon oversees our investment committee and, together with our Chief Wealth Strategist and Director of Research, sets our wealth generation framework, philosophy, and approach. Under his leadership, our firm has been independently recognized in multiple years by the Financial Times among the top 300 annual advisers in the US and was featured by Charles Schwab in 2020 as a case study for its virtual work during the pandemic.
Prior to joining CornerCap, Cannon was a senior equity analyst at CIBC World Markets (formerly Oppenheimer), covering IT business services (2006-07), wireless services (2001-05), and emerging telecom (1998-05). Cannon has provided commentary on CNBC, CNN, Lou Dobbs MoneyLine, and Bloomberg News. He has also been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and Fortune, among other publications. He was rated a five-star analyst by Zachs Research in 2006. Cannon has an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from Princeton University in Political Economy.
Public service is important to Cannon. He is Board Chair and Past-President of the Rotary Club of Atlanta, heads the investment committee for the Wesleyan College endowment, and is Past-Chair of the Advisory Board for the Center for Ethics at Emory University, among other nonprofit endeavors. In 2021, he was honored with the Marion Collier Ross Leadership Award by the Rotary Club of Atlanta for outstanding leadership during the pandemic.
