Chuck Bettinger
Director of Trading

Given the high level of customization within each CornerCap client’s portfolio, Chuck’s role is quite literally at the center of executing every client’s unique wealth accumulation strategy.  He oversees trading of all stock, bond, mutual fund and other investment products within client portfolios. In addition to making sure trades happen when and how needed to address each client’s specific goals, Chuck manages key relationships with external partners involved in the trading process, a role that comes naturally to him since he spent the first decade of his career with Goldman Sachs as a stock trader on the New York Stock Exchange. Thanks to Chuck’s efforts to leverage existing and emerging technology in the field, our firm is able to keep trading costs in check for clients so that we can keep their dollars focused on portfolio growth, not fees.

Why did you choose to join CornerCap?

CornerCap was truly exceptional in the Atlanta financial services market in that it offered me the ability to continue to use the specialized trading skill set I learned on the floor of the NYSE.

How do you encourage clients to frame their financial picture?

I’m directly responsible for implementing the investment objectives and strategies on behalf of each one of our clients. I take pride in adding value by improving cost points on trade executions because it directly benefits those who trust us to manage their wealth.

What was your first job, and how did it influence your ultimate career path?

I was a stock boy and did yard labor for a hardware store and the adjacent lumber yard.  It taught me the value and satisfaction of a hard day’s work and a job done well.  After working outside through the New Jersey winters, it also taught me that I would ultimately prefer to work indoors.  The long-time yard men were some of the toughest, heartiest folks I’ve ever seen.

What’s left to accomplish on your bucket list?

To celebrate our 20th anniversary, my wife and I went to Peru.  We fell in love with the diversity of geography and climate and with the hospitality and culture of its people.   My wife and I would love the opportunity to further explore South America and hope to return someday soon.
